Clean the gears with a toothbrush if you see debris or gunk in them. To check this, carefully inspect the gears for missing teeth and make sure they all freely turn. If any of these issues occur your timer will not work properly. Sometimes bugs get in there and jam the gears, sometimes debris is the issue and other times the gears get old and may lose a tooth.
